Shoes were not permitted when walking through the inner rooms of the temple. Along the walls were carvings depicting the story of Buddha. The floors were covered in large fire ants.

While drivers wait for a Mekong ferry, street vendors swarm selling food ranging from boiled eggs to fried crickets. I found being immersed into the everyday lives of my countrymen as an incredibly humbling experience.

Just as we were about to leave I looked out of our van's window and saw this emaciated cow sorting through trash looking for food. I ran across the traffic to get the capture. The scene shocked me in many ways and, to me, spoke volumes about the fundamental problems with Cambodian society.

Outside of the temple, Wat Phnom, one could gain "good karma" by releasing 2 birds for $1. I did not want to perpetuate the practice but couldn't help doing my part to free at least 2.

I never learned the name of this dog, but nonetheless felt it was the perfect picture to end the set. My dear Cambodia...I will return soon and with my return I will bring a change.
